En garde!
From today you all have a brand new right-click option to feed your inner musketeer. Duelling anywhere is here, please use responsibly!
In other news, gear up for Summer HiScores and Summer Sweepstakes that both start tomorrow.
We've also been taking on board your feedback about the Illumination aura, so scroll down and check out the changes that have been made to how it works.
PvP Duelling Anywhere
Available to both free to play and RuneScape members
Use the new right-click op to challenge other players to a duel. Duelling works likes a trade in the Grand Exchange. Send a duel request to another player and accept via a message in the chat box or by selecting the duel op.

If you do not wish to be bothered by requests to duel, you can filter them by either turning off the duel option or via the trade filter like with challenge offers in the duel arena.
You can challenge anyone you like to a duel (see the Rules of the Duel below for reasons why it might not work).
PvP Duelling Anywhere
You will not actually earn anything from duelling (no XP or equipment from defeated opponents will be given). However, you will also not die or lose anything if you are defeated. So why start a duel? Well, it’s really fun, it’s healthy competition and you can finally get people back for giggling at your character's outfit!
Starting a Duel
When starting a duel, both you and your opponents will be healed in full and any buffs/debuffs and adrenaline you have will be removed. You will see a countdown from 3 and then the word FIGHT! The attack option will then appear on your opponent.
Ending a Duel
The duel will end when one of you reaches 0 life points. Both of you will have all your lifepoints restored to what they were at the start of the duel. Any buffs or debuffs from duelling will end.
A duel will also end if:
Either player moves into an existing PvP area
Either player equips one of the items on the list of disallowed items (see table below)
The players move more than 32 tiles away from each other
The player is attacked by an NPC that isn't their opponent’s familiar
The player attacks an NPC that that isn't their opponent’s familiar
Rules of the Duel | Disallowed Items
A Duel Cannot Start if:List of Disallowed Items
The person you wish to duel has the option to duel turned off
The player is "busy". i.e. an interface is open etc
Either player has one of the disallowed items equipped
Either player is standing in an existing PvP area
The player you wish to duel is already in combat
The player you wish to duel is already in a duel (“duel-ception” is NOT allowed!)
A duel cannot start or will end if any of the following are equipped:
Rubber chicken
Snowballs
Water balloons
Carrot
Xmas wand
Easter hand cannon
Candyfloss
Two-player emotes
Capoeira outfit
But enough talk...have at you!

Illumination Aura Changes
In response to your feedback over the weekend, we’ve tweaked how the Illumination aura works with XP boosts:
Bonus XP and the benefits of XP-boosting gear now work alongside the active Illumination aura – on +10% and +100% activations alike.
As usual, the additional XP given from each boost is always derived from base XP gain – so the boosts work in parallel, rather than stacking.
The Illumination aura boost now works with Gilded altars. Other XP boosts, such as clan avatars or Prayer bonus XP will be disabled on altars during activation.
Finally, only base XP gained during Illumination aura activations is counted for participation in the Summer HiScores.
Any questions? Head to the FAQ.
Patch Notes
For the latest update patch notes and NXT improvements, please see the forum thread.
Summer HiScores – start tomorrow!
Remember that the Illumination aura becomes available tomorrow, 1st June, and so do the accompanying Summer HiScores!
While your aura is active, any base XP you earn will go towards your HiScore. Compete to get to the top of the Summer HiScores table for each skill and show everyone what a total boss you are!
The Illumination aura is available for anyone who purchases our Summer Special package. It provides three months of membership for the price of two and is ideal for anyone looking to enjoy our Summer of Adventure content.
Please check our FAQ if you are unsure about anything relating to the summer special or our summer activities in general.
Summer Sweepstake
RuneScape members only
Starting 1st June, and running until 30th September is our fantastic Summer Sweepstake. This is your chance to win awesome in-game prizes including golden barrows sets, portable banks and even a trip to Jagex HQ in the September jackpot!
Claim your entry tickets by clicking on the Summer Sweepstake icon in the status bar in game.
Starting with 1 ticket in June, the number of tickets you receive each month (up to September inclusively) can increase by 1 with each consecutive month of membership over the summer. Note that you must click on the tickets and claim them each month for the eligibility to increase.
How to enter
Hand as many tickets as you like to Balthazar in Burthorpe to enter them into that month’s sweepstake.
For every ticket entered, you will receive a small prismatic lamp. The more tickets you enter into a particular month’s draw, the more likely you are to win when the draw happens at the end of the month.
Check back with Balthazar at the end of the month to see if you have won a prize!
You can find out more information about this sweepstake via the icon on the status bar in game.
Prizes
June, July and August draws are for a variety of great in-game prizes.
September, the final draw, is for the jackpot prize of a trip to Jagex HQ.
Ironmen are able to hand in tickets to Balthazar and will receive their small XP lamps, however they can only do this during September, raffling for the real-life prize.
Good luck!
