Dragon Slayer II

09/25/2017

The purpose of this blog is to detail as much as possible prior to the poll going live in-game to allow for player feedback.
Following feedback on previous blogs, we're trying something new this time by breaking things down into a lot more detail than usual. Also, we're purposefully not saying much about the actual quest and how it will play out as we don't want to ruin the surprise!

"Prove yourself a true champion. Kill the mighty dragon Elvarg of Crandor and earn the right to buy and wear the Rune Platebody" It has been 16 years to the day that the earliest Champion first heeded these words and set upon one of the most iconic challenges within RuneScape. In answering this call to arms the great adventurer would navigate Melzar’s Maze, traverse the island of Crandor and inflict revenge upon Elvarg.
st

30 years prior to the fateful day a mighty adventurer awakened Elvarg her slumber, Crandor was a thriving and very much alive island, with a great tradition of mages and adventurers. The history of the Crandor is a bold one, enough so that many a Crandorian earned the right to be part of the Champions' Guild! The Crandor we know today is very different that of the past and there are so many questions that remain unanswered - your chance to uncover the secrets of the past starts with Dragon Slayer II.

Dragon Slayer II will lead you on an adventure across the game, visiting locations new and old. Along the way, you will uncover new lore on the Dragons, as well as hearing the story of many a brave hero. Expect to complete challenging puzzles, traverse through undiscovered dungeons with multiple threats and face against some of the most fearsome foes we’ve ever introduced into the game! Dragon Slayer II will be a new Grandmaster quest with some of the highest requirements for any quest to date. For such a challenge, those able to complete the quest are sure to be rewarded greatly – so much so that we are detailing and offering all rewards separately.

Poll Question
Should we add the quest Dragon Slayer II to Old School RuneScape? It will be rewarded with 5 Quest Points.

As time passes, that which was once fact, becomes myth. Some tales are just that, tales. However, some tales are something more. - Alec Kincade, Guildmaster.
The Myths Guild is a new guild located on a small island south of Feldip Hills. It is a guild dedicated to unearthing fact and dispelling notions of fiction. The island is accessed via a small bridge the mainland. Players with 200 or more quest points will be able to enter the lobby of the guild. However, full access to the guild is only available to players who have completed Dragon Slayer II.

The Myths guild will contain:

  • A bank (with deposit box and poll booth)
  • An armoury containing a shopkeeper and an anvil.
  • A kitchen containing a range and a sink
  • A garden containing 4 Magic Trees.
  • A mine containing 4 Adamantite rocks and 2 Runite rocks.
  • A chapel containing an altar.
  • The Fountain of Myths - Can be used to recharge Skills necklaces, Combat bracelets and Amulets of glory.
  • A portal chamber with portals to the Champions' Guild, Heroes' Guild and Legend's Guild.
  • A library with various lore books.
  • A dungeon containing a ion of Green, Blue, Red and Black Dragons (including baby dragons).

  • The armoury store will sell the following items:

  • Dragon dagger (30,000 coins)
  • Dragon mace (50,000 coins)
  • Dragon longsword (100,000 coins)
  • Dragon battleaxe (200,000 coins)
  • Shield right half (750,000 coins)
  • Dragon metal shard (2,000,000 coins) if Dragon Kiteshield/Platebody are added to the game only

  • Poll Question
If Dragon Slayer II is added, should we add a new guild – the Myths Guild?

    Mythical Ring
The Mythical Ring is a new ring which will provide unlimited teleports to the Myths Guild. It can be reclaimed the proposed Guildmaster below if lost.

    Poll Question
If Dragon Slayer II is added to the game, should completion of the quest reward you with the Mythical Ring?

    Superior Antifire Potions
Upon completion of the quest, players will be able to talk to an NPC in the Myths guild to unlock the ability to create Superior antifire potions. Superior antifire potions can be created by combining Antifire potions with crushed Superior dragon bones, provided the player has a Herblore level of 92. Superior dragon bones will be covered later in this blog. Mixing a Superior antifire potion will yield 130xp per potion.
Superior antifire potions are tradeable and will provide complete fire protection for 2 minutes. Creating Superior antifire potions will provide minimal amounts of xp and should not be considered an effective way of training herblore. The using and trading of Superior antifire potions does not require completion of Dragon Slayer II, only the making of the potions requires quest completion.

    Poll Question
If we add the Myths guild, should we add an NPC who can teach you how to create Superior antifire potions?

    The Wrath Altar
Players with 95 and above Runecrafting would be able to craft a new tradeable Rune, known as Wrath runes. This would be done via the Wrath altar located within the guild. The altar is guarded by Adamant and Rune dragons (these are covered later in the blog). Access to the guild and the altar would only be unlocked after completing Dragon Slayer II. Players will need a Wrath talisman which would be dropped by Adamant Dragons, Rune Dragons or Vorkath – if the Wrath talisman was not added to the of these NPC’s then we cannot add the Wrath altar. A Wrath tiara can also be used which is made in the usual way.

Crafting Wrath runes will provide less xp/hr than lava runes (approx. 30k/hour) and will require traversing through a dungeon filled with aggressive dragons of varying strength or via the Abyss.

Wrath runes will be used in the Surge spells if they are added to the game. If the altar does not get added to the game and Surge spells pass the poll, the only way to obtain these runes will be via NPC drops. If the Wrath runes were not added to the of these NPC’s then we cannot add the Surge spells.
Wrath runes and the Surge spells can be used without completing the quest. The Ourania Altar will not give Wrath runes.
    Poll Question
If we add the Myths guild, should we also add the Wrath Altar?

    Surge Spells
We often get asked to give the Standard Spellbook some much-needed love and attention. With the possibility of Wrath runes being added to the game, now feels like the perfect time to introduce Surge Spells to Old School! The animation for these spells would be similar to the original design when they were first added.

Wrath runes and the Surge spells can be used without completing the quest.

Wind Surge Requires 81 Magic. Uses 7 Air Runes and 1 Wrath Rune. Has a max hit of 21.
Water Surge Requires 85 Magic. Uses 7 Air Runes, 10 Water Runes and 1 Wrath Rune. Has a max hit of 22.
Earth Surge Requires 90 Magic. Uses 7 Air Runes, 10 Earth Runes and 1 Wrath Rune. Has a max hit of 23.
Fire Surge Requires 95 Magic. Uses 7 Air Runes, 10 Fire Runes and 1 Wrath Rune. Has a max hit of 24. The Tome of Fire will work with Fire Surge.

    Poll Question
Should we add Surge spells to the game? These would form part of the standard spellbook and offers spells Wind Surge (81 Magic) through to Fire Surge (95 Magic).

    Vorkath
Dragon Slayer II is sure to challenge your wits, as well as offering many a tough NPC you’ll have to defeat! We want to extend this challenge further by adding a new solo boss into the game – Vorkath (Who can be seen in the artwork heading this post). Vorkath will be a brand-new Dragon boss offering the long awaited upgrade to the accumulator, Ava’s Assembler, which is a new best in slot ranged cape, alongside a new ranged shield similar to the Dragonfire Shield known as the Dragonfire Ward.
    Poll Question
If Dragon Slayer II is added to the game, should we include Vorkath, a new high level solo boss to the game? The boss would have a combat level of 600 to 700 and kills will be tracked in the boss log. Vorkath can be assigned as a boss slayer task if the player has unlocked them.

    Superior Dragon Bones
Vorkath will guarantee two bone drops per kill. These tradeable bones give 150 Prayer xp when buried making them the best bones in the game. However, they will require a Prayer level of 70 to use. Superior dragon bones can also be crushed with a Pestle and Mortar to create Crushed dragon bones which are a secondary ingredient in Superior antifire potions. Use of the bones will not require completion of the quest.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop Superior dragon bones?

    Dragon Bolts
Vorkath will drop Dragon bolts (unf). Players with 84 Fletching will be able to add feathers to these to make Dragon bolts. Dragon bolts will be new crossbow bolts that can be fired Dragon, Dragon hunter and Armadyl crossbows. Dragon bolts (unf) and Dragon bolts will be tradeable. Bolt tips Dragonstone upwards will be addable to Dragon bolts. Use of these bolts in any form will not require completion of the quest. Adding feathers to Dragon bolts (unf) will yield 12xp per completed bolt.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop Dragon bolts (unf)?

    Wrath Talisman
Vorkath will drop the Wrath Talisman which is a tradeable talisman that can be used to gain access to the Wrath Altar. A Wrath tiara can be created a Wrath talisman. This would only be added if the Wrath Altar is added to the game.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop a Wrath talisman?

    Wrath Runes
Vorkath will sometimes drop a moderate amount of Wrath runes. Wrath runes would be a new tradeable rune used to cast Surge spells should they be added to the game. If the Wrath Altar does not get added to the game this will be one of the only source of Wrath runes. Wrath runes and the Surge spells can be used without completing the quest.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop a moderate amount of Wrath runes?

    Dragonbone Necklace
Vorkath will rarely drop the Dragonbone Necklace, a tradeable necklace. The necklace will require 80 Prayer to equip and when worn it will restore prayer points when bones are buried. The amount of prayer points restored will vary depending on the bone buried with higher level bones giving more prayer points – this will use the same scaling as burying bones in the Kourend Catacombs. Completion of the quest is not required to equip the necklace.

This effect would not stack with the Kourend Catacombs prayer perk.
Equipping the necklace will reduce players remaining prayer points by 50% - this would apply regardless of whether you are in combat or not. The reason behind this is to prevent players swapping to and the necklace solely to gain prayer points on demand.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop the Dragonbone Necklace?

    Skeletal Visage & Dragonfire Ward
Vorkath will drop the Skeletal visage, a tradeable ranged version of the Draconic visage. Players with 90 Smithing can combine an Anti-dragon shield with a Skeletal visage to create a Dragonfire ward, a new ranged version of the Dragonfire shield which Requires 75 Defence and 70 Ranged to equip. Completion of the quest is not required to equip the Dragonfire ward. The experience gained smithing the Dragonfire ward would be similar to that of the Dragonfire shield. The Dragonfire ward is charged and uncharged in the same manner that the Dragonfire shield.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop the Skeletal Visage? This would be used to create the Dragonfire Ward, which would also be added to the game.

    Vorkath’s Head & Ava’s Assembler
Vorkath will rarely drop his head. Players can take this head to Ava in Draynor Manor along with an Ava’s accumulator to obtain an Ava’s assembler, a new best in slot ranged item for the cape slot. Ava’s assembler can randomly gather mithril ranged items. This would require 70 Ranged to equip. Both Vorkath’s head and Ava’s Assembler will be untradeable. There will be a max cape version of Ava’s Assembler. The Assembler has the same chance of saving ammunition as the Accumulator.

Images and detail are currently a WIP and are subject to change

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop Vorkath’s Head? This would be used to create the Ava’s Assembler, a new best in slot ranged item for the cape slot, which would also be added.

    Poll Question
If Vorkath is added to the game, should it drop Vorki? Vorki is a new untradeable pet based off of Vorkath.

    metal Dragons & Special Drops

With the introduction of a quest based around dragons, it seems fitting we should offer a new NPC for you to slay! With the current metal dragon’s lineage ending at Mithril, we’d love to finally give you the chance to add both Adamant and Runite dragons to the game!

    g in the Blanks (Literally)

After years of development, adding new content and expanding upon new areas, it seems like we have some space left on the map to fill – something you’ve noticed too! We’ve heard your requests to fill in these blank spots found throughout the world map and as such we’d like to offer adding new content available to both members and F2P.
